THIS IS A SKY WATCHING POST!!
I am not much of a theme person but this is the best I can do for a Sky Watch Halloween theme. There were some stormy skies behind the Chinese Cemetery at Harling Point a while ago. I know I did not get the light right but it gives it a gloomy dark mood. There were small offerings of flowers and incense on the bench from someone and to someone we will never know. When I was sitting there thinking about this, some children came by and played around the twin towers of the ceremonial monument, their laughter contrasted with the silent sadness and vast beauty of this historic place.
This is a National Historic Site covered in wildflowers and on a seaside bluff overlooking the Olympic Mountains, the simple grave stones are in a feng shui setting as Gonzales Hill rises behind them. The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association bought the land and moved many of the Chinese graves to this new location from 1903 to 1908. This would be a temporary home for them as it was thought that those who died in a foreign place would wander lost until they were returned home to China. So the remains would be exhumed after seven years and sent to China for burial but this ended in 1933 due to the war in China and Japan. Many of the Chinese were buried at Harling Point until the 1950s when it was closed. It is a really beautiful, lonely place with an isolated feeling to it as the waves from many storms have crashed upon the ragged rocks and cliffs below.

Nice shots! Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognize__ blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, and our own two eyes. All is a miracle!!! Happy sky watch! Hope too see you @ corner too...
I too love old cemeteries. We have many Chinese burial grounds as we had so many gold rushes.
Great idea for a Halloween skywatch

A very unusual offering. Lovely pictures.I would love to visit there.
"wander lost".....sad thought.
the pictures have a very somber note, probably because they are of a cemetery.

I've never visited a Chinese cemetery before. Thanks for posting about one. ;-)
What a unique setting you've used for these photos! Great idea.
Very interesting photo for SWF. Have a great weekend.
Unique set of photos, I like them..
Interesting. Many of our chinese cemeteries were gone. The graves were digged up and the dead cremated and housed in columbarium or temples or churches. We are a tiny dot in the world map. Not enough space for the living so land is very precious and expensive here. Every ching ming festival, we would offered prayers to the dead. I enjoyed as a child going to the cemetery with my parents and siblings. As every tombstone looked alike, we have to recognise the biggest tree and count the number of rows to find our ancestor's tomb. Nothing to be afraid, we took food and offerings to the cemetery to pray to our ancestors and after the prayers, we tuck into the food that had been offerred....lol.
Thanks to the lovely people who commented. I will come and see your blogs.
Those gravestones have such a great view towards the sea. Looking towards home I presume.

So interrsting this is completely new to me and to tohere's I see. A very sombre poignant skywatch.
This looks like a scary place in the pictures to me. I think you got the Halloween mood just right in those pictures.

I'm fascinated by the idea of a Chinese cemertery...we don't have those here :-) Very interesting!
Beautiful photos! I like the twin monuments looking out over the water. It seems to be a peaceful place.
What a wonderful post. I love old cemetaries and this was a chance to get a glimpse of one we don't see everyday. GREAT. Loved it. Thanks for this great post and sharing.
I love that first set of monuments. You certainly did get a Halloween feel to the pictures.
Thanks for your comments they are always appreciated here.
Interesting post and the photos catch the mood of the place!
I've been to this cemetary before. Looking through your pictures is like a little taste of home for me. I miss the island.
Very sombre photos! I learned about Chinese cemeteries for the first time. It must have been difficult for the families at the time worrying about the souls of their loved ones. The photos really add to that feeling I think.
