THIS IS A SKY WATCHING POST!!
I am not much of a theme person but this is the best I can do for a Sky Watch Halloween theme. There were some stormy skies behind the Chinese Cemetery at Harling Point a while ago. I know I did not get the light right but it gives it a gloomy dark mood. There were small offerings of flowers and incense on the bench from someone and to someone we will never know. When I was sitting there thinking about this, some children came by and played around the twin towers of the ceremonial monument, their laughter contrasted with the silent sadness and vast beauty of this historic place.

This is a National Historic Site covered in wildflowers and on a seaside bluff overlooking the Olympic Mountains, the simple grave stones are in a feng shui setting as Gonzales Hill rises behind them. The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association bought the land and moved many of the Chinese graves to this new location from 1903 to 1908. This would be a temporary home for them as it was thought that those who died in a foreign place would wander lost until they were returned home to China. So the remains would be exhumed after seven years and sent to China for burial but this ended in 1933 due to the war in China and Japan. Many of the Chinese were buried at Harling Point until the 1950s when it was closed. It is a really beautiful, lonely place with an isolated feeling to it as the waves from many storms have crashed upon the ragged rocks and cliffs below.

I too love old cemeteries. We have many Chinese burial grounds as we had so many gold rushes.
Great idea for a Halloween skywatch
and lovely moody skies.

the pictures have a very somber note, probably because they are of a cemetery.

Interesting. Many of our chinese cemeteries were gone. The graves were digged up and the dead cremated and housed in columbarium or temples or churches. We are a tiny dot in the world map. Not enough space for the living so land is very precious and expensive here. Every ching ming festival, we would offered prayers to the dead. I enjoyed as a child going to the cemetery with my parents and siblings. As every tombstone looked alike, we have to recognise the biggest tree and count the number of rows to find our ancestor's tomb. Nothing to be afraid, we took food and offerings to the cemetery to pray to our ancestors and after the prayers, we tuck into the food that had been offerred....lol.

Very sombre photos! I learned about Chinese cemeteries for the first time. It must have been difficult for the families at the time worrying about the souls of their loved ones. The photos really add to that feeling I think.
