I am putting in my yearly bird review of some of the highlights of the year mostly involving birds. In January of this year we were all watching a leucistic Fox Sparrow who seemed to delight us with every little dance.
Also we were still amazed at the amount of Pelicans who came to visit the inner harbour and sit on the docks giving us many photo opportunities.

Today it is Waxwings. We have the Cedar Waxwings here where I live. I love the rakish black mask they have like little bandits. They also have these amazing brilliant red waxy droplets or secretions on the wings. The young birds don't have them and the males are most likely to have them. Perhaps it is to attract a female.

Some great pictures of the new Vermilion Bird today. Have you seen this bird. Well not really. Just a joke. Actually just some photos of the birds in the backyard that have red or vermilion on them or around them. The ABC Meme is at the letter "V" for vermilion this week.

The future is unknown to me. I am thinking of all the unknown things in life...the unexpected both good and bad. The future remains full of them. There is fear of the unknown and also
excitement in the unknown.

Today is the letter "T" for the Trumpeter Swans. The Trumpeter Swan is the largest of North America's native birds. It nests in the far north wetlands of Alaska. This is not a Sad Swan Song story as the Trumpeter is a success story.

Today it is the Snow Bunting! This is a bird from the high Arctic and for the snow and cold. It has come here to have a holiday. This is a lovely little bird, mostly white like the snow for camouflage. It is our little snowflake. I just love this little friendly bird.

I am just going to sprinkle some photos I like around in here so as not to be too boring. That is a Red-breasted Sapsucker on the very top and this is what we used to call a Rufous-sided Towhee above.

I have a lot of questions on the subject of nature. I could go on forever with my questions as I am so fascinated with nature and all her wonders. Why is the hummingbird so small yet so smart?
Why are baby hawks so cute and we never get to see them at this stage?

Just my pretty birds in my yard today. My Flicker comes to visit me. He brings a friend sometimes. He is getting braver and sleeps in this tree. He looks at my camera but does not leave now. Usually announces his arrival with a piercing call for everyone to hear. His wings make a lovely noise.
He likes the fat and peanuts.

I am so sorry for my absence from blogging as I took most of October off to rest and we did travel to the Oyster River a few times. I will include below some photos of the sky at the mouth of the Oyster River where we camped near Campbell River, B.C.

Just when I don't go out in the boat all the EXCITEMENT happens...my husband got all these shots of Enormous whales and I missed all the fun!
He was fishing out of Becher Bay near Sooke when a lot of the Southern Resident orca populations showed up. There were so many I think we could call it a Superpod which is an Enormous pod of whales. They were in Juan de Fuca Straits.

This week I got some dandy "D" bird shots. I did not realise how many "d" birds there are. We had a busy birding week on Vancouver Island so here are some of the photos.

I am a Canadian Blogger. I blog from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, in Canada. This got me to thinking I wonder what people think of when they think of Canada? My Blogger friends are from all over the world so I will show them My Canada!
These are a few of the people, places and things that represent Canada to me.
Our Canadian Aboriginal People.

Come and sit with me in my garden to see the secret life of the birds
that spend their lives visiting with me each afternoon. This could be
called Afternoon Birds in My Garden. I was very excited to get the
photo below as the Black Headed Grosbeak has only come to the feeder this one time! That is Towhee above there.

Here we go again..another photo remix! These are some of my favourite photos from the past. I am on a blog text holiday and just putting in photos as it is very relaxing. This was a Canada Day Celebration at Fort Rodd Hill above. This guy with the hat walked into my shot....I was laying down on some rocks way out on the point with a wide angle...I like the distortion. I tried not to get wet as waves splashed over me. I always get wet.
I think these will be good for Sky Watch and Weekend Reflections.

Well not really DAZZLING! Today I am continuing my photo review of the past year. It is holiday time and I am away from the computer most of the time. We are at the Zenith of our popular meme, ABC Wednesday, and at the letter "Z".

I have been thinking of my younger days and going back in time and yearning to connect with people I have lost touch with over the years. The letter this week at a very popular blogging meme, ABC Wednesday is the letter "Y" for my thoughts of yesterday. I will include as many "y's" as I can and still yield some sense. I am doing photo mix, a year in review of some of my past photos. We are near the end of this series of ABC. The top picture is of Long Beach, B.C. I grew up on a beach like this.

Birding in Victoria, B.C.Vancouver Island Birding is still really great. We found a pair of Wonderful Cedar Waxwings displaying a mating behaviour for us. One was feeding the other one a lot of flying insects.
They also were rubbing their beaks together a lot.

Also visible at Mount Tolmie was the vivacious and volant little Lazuli Bunting with its vivid colors. It was very vocal with a lot of verbose calls.

Smell the RosesThere are so many sweet things in life. Life is just full of sweet things. Is that why I am here, to see so many sweet, sweet things. I love the smell of roses in the spring time.
A child posing in the flowers for me is so sweet.
Strong, healthy stems on the tulips for me to see. New life abundantly
covers the earth, repeating its natural cycle whether we are here or not.
