Spirit Pole and Q Things

I find that there are not many Q words or pictures and it is hard to do. But I was not going to quit in my quest for "Q" words for the ABC Meme. So above here we have the Spirit Pole at the Quw'utsun' Cultural and Conference Center in Duncan, B.C. The pole was made to honour the Cowichan 2008 Indigenous Games.  The pole traveled over 10,000 km and was carved by 11,599 people in 52 communities in B.C.  The frog is in the front of the pole and he helps everyone take a step forward.  He has a smile for all of us as well.  There are a quadruple of  salmon above the frog, they swim in a stream representing the hard work it takes to be positive and move forward.  The Master Carver of the pole was Carey Newman.

This is a shot of one of the buildings at the Cultural Center.

These are pictures of Cowichan Bay, a quaint little village. Originally it was called Quw'utsun', meaning a place to warm your back. This is quite true.

This is a picture of Genoa Bay which is near Cowichan.

This old log cabin is near Quesnel, B.C.

Now for the birders here are some Quail from out in Metchosin.

Another Quadruple of Brant below.

A few quaint places below, this one below was taken on Cortes Island with the quicksilver ocean. I really like it.

This is a small quay or dock on Cortes island.

The planter box owlets with one looking quizzically at me the other one is quiescent.

Below is a quadruped animal, a bear in the Quinsam River hatchery.

The bear is shaking the water off his head.  He did not like the water in his ears. I think I was too close.

A quintuple of sheep. One is jumping high in the air. Well that is it.  I did not do a quantity of photos this time but I hope  you like my quirky blog.

Life seems to be quickening for me...never enough time to do all the things I dream of doing. I hope you all have a great week and do some of the things you dream of in your life.

Thank you to these memes for allowing bloggers to share their story.  I may not remember to enter them all but I still list them for others and as this is the quick way for me to do it.

Wow! So many beautiful photos! I'd REALLY like to live close to that bench (by the little pier). I could sit in that scene for a long time. Great post!

So much to see in your post entry! I especially love the spirit pole and the story of its characters, as well as the village shots. I wish I could get the color and crystal clear focus you achieve.

Thanks so much for your kind and encouraging comment at Maraca re my vision issue. I really appreciate the advice. Knowing that others are coping is lowering my anxiety considerably.

I've always found totem poles quite fascinating since the meaning of each totem can mean so much - both in history and lore!! Love the quail images and those owls are super.

I'm here visiting under my Hootin' Anni admin for blogger, but wanted to also thank you for linking up this week at the Bird D'Pot meme.

Oh my! So many beautiful pics - I'm at a loss for words! I must look around here - the owls were from your planter box? I've been following the OKC GHO nest-owl cam.. until the babies fledged. I fell in love, and was heartbroken when they left. I must plant me some owls too.. lol! Again, fabulous captures! Thanks for sharing! -Tammy

Wonderful to see what you are seeing in your world Nora. Love the colourful spirit pole, I had a thunderbird before the fire. The log cabin is a place i would gladly live in as long as the bear did not come too close . . .

Hi Norah -- I was just scrolling around on your blog and found this post I'd missed. Loved the Indian carvings and the history! I bet that was the most unique entry for the alphabet meme that week. Your pictures are always so clear and sharp and lovely and make me feel like I'm visiting BC (and I wish I really were...it's getting too hot here in Florida!).
