My Canada

I am a Canadian Blogger.  I blog from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, in Canada.  This got me to thinking I wonder what people think of when they think of Canada?  My Blogger friends are from all over the world so I will show them My Canada!

These are a few of the people, places and things that represent Canada to me.

Our Canadian Aboriginal People.

Our Canadian coastline of pristine beaches and camping on the beach.

Our Canadian Sky.

And our birds.

This is a ball up of gulls feasting on the needle fish below.

This is the Cormorant colony out on Mandarte Island.

An osprey out in Brentwood.

Our wildflowers.  These are in Uplands Park.

Our little islands. This is Sidney Island or what we call Sidney Spit.

Our giant trees, I think this is the trail to Sandcut beach below.

Surfing on the beach out at Sombrio or Jordan River.

Going to our parks.  This is Witty's Lagoon below.

Our docks and fishing fleet, can't remember where this is, possibly in Sooke.

Little villages along the coastline like Cowichan and Genoa Bay.

Our harbour.  This is Victoria Inner Harbour below.

And our lovely gardens like the Butchart Gardens.  There are many more Canadian things I can think of but this is a start!  It is the letter "C" at the ABC meme this week, C for Canadian!

Most of these photos were taken this month and a few oldies in here also.
If you want more of me I have joined facebook finally so if you have sent me a friend request in the past, try again!

Thank you to these memes for allowing bloggers to share their story.  I may not remember to enter them all but I still list them for others and as this is the quick way for me to do it.

I love seeing the native dance executed with such earnestness. Are they fish teeth decorating their costumes? They are all so splendidly arrayed in their finery.

HI Nora such a lovely post and it certainly gives us a great flavour of what Canada is like, wonderful scenery, good birds life and fantastic boating opportunities. I have taken a birder out from Vancouver Island out birding in Northern Ireland so it is lovely to have another person that lives there.

Hi Arija, how are you. They are little wooden paddles I think. Will look again.

Yes I think First Nations is a better term, thanks Rog.It sounds better but Aboriginal means existing in a land from the earliest time or indigenous so it is ok I guess.

Nora at Island Rambles said...

Yes I would love to show all the bloggers My Canada. Wish I had a little blogger bed and breakfast place, that would be so cool!

Nora at Island Rambles said...

Yes and we could have Blogger Airlines as well...Google take note of this, if you can spend 60 million to research the dead zone around my island please make me a Blogger Airline so I can fly my friends to a Blogger Bed and Breakfast. Would you come if Google makes us a Blogger Airline and perhaps Blogger Tours and Blogger Hotels etc. What else do we need ...let me think....any suggestions. It is true Google is spending 60 million for research on a dead zone in the water near my island.

Nora at Island Rambles said...

thanks Pieni Lintu...your photos are beautiful too.

Hi Huldra, nice site you have. Hope you get to visit here...I want Google to make a Google Airline for Bloggers....this is a great idea right! And Google Blogging Hotels for us as well. Please Google, join us bloggers together in real time also. We live our virtual blog lives on Google's blogger platform as Google continues as the largest search engine in the world with a huge profit. Google.org has many philanthropic foundations, I wonder if in the future they will include bloggers. Sigh, just a dream I was having.

Reader Wil you have an incredible history. Do you ever blog about being a prisoner of war in the Japanese camps, I have just seen a movie on it.

Oh Nora, thank you for the wonderful tour of beautiful BC. Every picture is wonderful and the post made me want to pack up the camper van and head north from Oregon! It has been way too long. My favorite post was the little harbor village with the colorful boats (because I'd love to live right there!) but I also loved the look at the original Canadian people ... and the birds...and the beaches...well everything about this post was amazing. Thanks.

Oh What a tour of your gorgeous country. I live in South Wales in the UK but I too love your West Coast, Vancouver and Vancouver Island, and have visited several times. I will never forget the sight of wood floating in the inlets below as you approach Vancouver airport, my first sight of a bald headed eagle, trips on the BC Ferries, the drive to Ucluelet, camping on the beaches of Quadra and Cortez Islands, driftwood on far away beaches, Lagoon Cove on East Cracroft Island. Now then, where did I put my passport?......!!

Maggid said...

Thank you for the BEAUTIFUL Views of Canada . . . you are right, you have expanded my understanding or concept of Canada . .

Marvelous!

I haven't seen all of Canada, but I've been to enough of it to know that it is an enormous and beautiful country, populated (for the most part) by very friendly and polite people. I've spent most of my time there in British Columbia and on Vancouver Island. One time I drove all the way from Southern California to Victoria, to see an exhibition hockey game between the L.A. Kings and the Vancouver Canucks at the Memorial Arena. It was around 1975. We made it there and then my car broke down. We were stuck there for about a week. I rented a car and we had nothing to do but explore the island. After that week, I was convinced that I would live there someday.

Hope you will move here one day then Pat.
