Friday Photo Rant

Floral Friday above:  This posting is for the following link-ups and I thank each of the hosts for sharing their site to gather us together. I am very thankful for these blogging friends. Please see the links below to find their sites.

Sky Watch Friday above:

The Weekend in Black and White above:  (Seagull eating spawned fish at Goldstream)

Noticed this tree nursery when I was looking for the Harris Sparrow which I have not yet found.

Weekend Reflections above:

Saturday's Critters above:  (This is a real photo above, taken with cell phone, my husband took it!)

Pink Saturday above:  (I was using some of the paint programs in the Panasonic FZ200 so was able to get black backgrounds in the Fall, yay!)

The Bird D'Pot Sunday  (Bewick's Wren above)

Thought of the Day:
Blogging has changed over the years.  I wonder what you think the major changes are in blogging for you.  I notice that so many bloggers have left now and blogging has become so commercial. Also every famous person now has a blog.  Years ago it was just nature bloggers and not so much commercial and news media blogs. Long ago blogging was a fringe element now it is establishment. What do you think, got an opinion?  Click on any of the links below for good links.  Most of the links below are not commercial and are not trying to sell you something. There just seems to be a small core of non-commercial bloggers here now. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest all try to sell something to you, it seems to me anyway.  I am tired of seeing ads on everything I click on.  That is my rant for today. (also I had no text!)

************************************************

Thank you to each of these link up hosts for allowing bloggers to share their story. Click on any of these links for some great blogs and photos.  This post is for these wonderful bloggers:

Lovely, lovely photographs! I don't like seeing the ads on blogs, either, although I know that some people blog to make a living. . .still, don't like them! I didn't really begin blogging until about a year ago, and it took me several years to get up the nerve to begin. However, I will NEVER have ads on my blog. It is really a personal thing that I do it, and I just like staying in touch with others who enjoy some of the same things that I do! Like your beautiful photos!

Wow, I love that shot that your husband took of the dog, reflection, and rainbow!! I'm not a fan of adds either and I don't have any on my blog. That said, I have wondered how much money adds bring in. I'm guessing very little, but not really sure.

Oh my goodness....I love the photograph with the rainbow and the dog. What a shot! Happy Groundhog Day!

All your photographs are very good and I would be proud of any of them, and the first photo is simply spectacular.

I've been thinking about blogging a lot lately. It seems that there are less photobloggers now, especially US bloggers. The overseas bloggers are really leading the way.

I spend a lot of time on Instagram sharing photos now. Facebook and Twitter have turned too political.

I know that a lot of bloggers are trying to make money on their blogs via advertising and/or are trying to get free merchandise. I try to be understanding but the ads make the posts kind of bulky to load. I hate being marketed to these days and really enjoy just looking at photographs that people post and the story behind the photos. The story is what is missing in Instagram.

I appreciate people such as yourself who are still posting photos and the story behind the photos and are not cluttering things up with ads and such and are visiting other blogs on a regular basis.

For me blogging works best when it is like a conversation rather than a competition. We are all in this business of life together and we need to support each other.

Sorry for the rant. But I like discussing blogging and why people blog.

Beautiful photos, especially of the flowers. Yes, I'm sad that some of my favorite bloggers aren't posting anymore. And I too don't like ads on blogs (which is why my blog does not have any). There are still quite a few non-commercial blogs that I follow so we haven't all gone away yet!

I think when some of us started blogging that people weren't using other platforms as much. I think the pool of bloggers has definitely shrunk . Personally I don't use Facebook as I don't like the format but most people do. For a lot of people, blogging is rather passe. But I am really glad that bloggers I like keep posting as I find it refreshing and inspiring to see their photos and text.

Love them all, but that cell phone pix with the dog and rainbow is just outstanding! Congrats to your husband!

Beautiful photos! The doggie rainbow pic is fantastic! I started blogging in 2004. It never occurred to me that it could make money. Sounds crazy. It was just a way to keep a journal of our times through stories and photographs. I can't tell you how often I go to the blog to check on something that happened a decade ago. To be honest, I didn't even know people made money from blogs.

Lori Skoog said...

Yep! That first photo knocked my socks off!
I have no interest in putting ads on my Journal, but I probably am in overload with photos some of the time and short on words. For years, I have followed the same people and even met a few of them in person (my favorite thing to do). Started blogging in 2008 and tonight was number 5555....have not missed one day. Such a ritual. I also like the conversation part.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on this subject. I have joined instagram and will try to figure it out as well. Your comments is really appreciated and well written and I appreciate the time it took to clearly write it and add the information to my blog, which makes my blog better. Thanks Yogi.

Hi Nora, I so enjoyed your beautiful photos today. Every.single.one. It is hard to pick favourites but the dog with the rainbow and the reflection is really eye catching. Having said that your other photos are beautiful too.

I was out snapping eagles today but it was quite cloudy and snowy. I no longer publish my blog but perhaps when I have better nature photos I will return. I only stopped blogging for a rest and then it turns out I got busy but I am hoping it is not the end. I am certainly enjoying reading blogs though not commenting nearly quite so often.

I do agree that blogging has changed a lot and I too dislike reading ads on blogs. It seems every one has a business even stay at home mom's. So I prefer blogs like yours that are not trying to sell something but simply trying to share beauty. Do you mind sharing your camera and lens either here on a bog or send me an email reply?

Have a wonderful weekend.

Beautiful photos. In your black and white you've caught a moment I've never seen - a good dramatic pose. In common with everyone else, I'm in love with your husband's photo of the dog and rainbow!

I like to blog just for fun and I hate the blogs that take forever to load because of all of their ads! BUT....LOVE your little wren. They are one of my favorite birds!

Anni said...

Pure awesomeness!! Incredible, and beautiful images...all of them.

Thanks so much for adding your post link at I'd Rather B Birdin' this week. Your participation is always appreciated. Love the wren image very much.

I think I have your email. But I will try to write out my cameras here. I have a Panasonic FZ200. Also I have a Panasonic GH4. On the GH4 I use a 100 - 300 lens. I have another shorter lens but am too lazy to change the lenses so I use the FZ200 for scenery and the GH4 for birds. I am really happy with the Panasonics. I also had Canon gear but it is too heavy for me now to carry. I hope you come back to blogging as I really enjoyed your blog so much.

Gorgeous shots. I love the one of the dog and the rainbow! I agree with you: Blogging has changed. Some have gone commercial, but I don't know many of those blogs. And sadly, so many of my favourite bloggers have stopped.

Your pictures are so beautiful. Pretty much all my blogs are photo bloggers. I don't go to any commercial blogs; once in a while someone who has a lot of ads will comment on mine and then I go there once, but never again. I don't mind the ones that have one tiny ad at the bottom of their post (TexWis Girl used to have that and she was a great blogger who has quit now). I do FaceBook but not very well,,, just to see my grands and great-grands and get a few recipes and places to see birds. I ignore the ads and most of the messages which isn't very nice, but I am old and don't have time to spend all day on FB. Will never do Twitter or any of the other social media.

Sue (this n that) said...

Hello Nora, all your photos are so enjoyable to scroll through... the reflections, in particular.

Joyful said...

Hi Nora, thank you for your kind response to my request. I do appreciate it so much as I want to learn how to take good photos. I can learn from those that know what they are doing.

I also appreciate your kind comment about my blog. I do hope in coming months that I can return but it will likely be a new blog or a different focus on my current (unpublished) blog. I'll have to figure that out as I go along. In the meantime hopefully I will be practicing taking photos. Have a great week.

Nora said...

Thanks so much Cynthia, I feel the same way.

Nora said...

Yes I wonder how much these ads bring in. Does anyone know. Perhaps I will dig into that a bit. I know a lot of people put ads on to make money blogging but I am sure the Google ads don't pay much.

Nora said...

Hi there Light and Voices, oh Happy Groundhog Day! That is my favorite one also.

Nora said...

Hi Jim! We have been at this blogging too long!

Nora said...

Thanks Carol!

Nora said...

Jump right back in Joyful and start blogging again. The longer time you take off, the harder it is to start up again, or was for me anyway! Always good to change the focus and feel inspired about that.

Nora said...

Thanks Sue, your blog is really wonderful as well. So I followed and we now can follow! Great! For some reason no one is using the Google Friend Connect anymore. What is with that. It is a fast way to add a blog to your blog list. Oh well the entire blogging community is changing.

Nora said...

Hi Sallie, yes I agree with what you say there. I don't mind one ad but even then it becomes a commercial blog with that one ad. I am put off with Twitter right now as I always get some nasty angry abusive comments.

Nora said...

Thanks Molly, Welcome.

Nora said...

Thanks Robert, I remember you from past blogging. Nice to see your blog again.

Nora said...

Hi Fi, yes so many bloggers are leaving. Where are they going. Facebook I guess. Some on Twitter. I guess some just quit. A lot of my favorites have just stopped also. And then a lot have passed that I just loved their blogs.
Blogging has become a different community now. A lot of very commercial blogs and not so many small bloggers who just blog for the fun of it and to meet other bloggers.

Nora said...

Hi Anni, I am so glad some of the link-ups are still out there. As so many link-ups are finished now. Bloggers have moved on to other social media, the core group of us who used to be on Nature Bloggers Network are all leaving.

Nora said...

Hi Lavender, yes that is the problem, some of the blogs just load forever with all the ads. And on Google+ I spend forever trying to find my way to comment on that blog.

Nora said...

Thanks so much Sharon!

Nora said...

Hi John, my photos do not compare to what you can do.

Nora said...

Hi Dragonstar, so glad you are continuing with your link up. So many link ups are finished. What is the point of blogging if we can't connect together and find new blogs similar to our interests. I always check out the link ups for new bloggers also.

Nora said...

Hi Linda, I always enjoy your photos and your blog.

Nora said...

Yes that is what is happening Jenny, Blogging has become passe. So the establishment and commercial media has taken it over. I don't like the format at Facebook, or twitter. You have too many restrictions and cannot tell a story about the photos there. There are so many social media platforms now. No one is reading blogs and everyone's attention span is limited to what you can put on a tweet.

Nora said...

Yes thanks Janet. My hubby is a great photographer.

Nora said...

Hey Robin, sorry about your mom. Hope all goes well. Yes I find that I need to look up things on my photos or the blog. I remember first seeing your blog and just loving the title. I was so excited to get your first comment on my blog.

Nora said...

Thanks Lori, yes your blog is the perfect example of an excellent blog. You post every day and always have a wonderful story and photos. I think I am overwhelmed at the changes in blogging since I have returned from a break. There is too much computer media that is a waste of time and then there are wonderful blogs like we follow and who do not get the exposure that a commercial blog gets. If Blogger and blogspot are in the process of changing which they always are, then I think there should be a more cohesive community and more of a platform for non-commercial bloggers to form a community. Blogger does not even update it's favorite blogs anymore which was just a scam anyway.

Nora said...

Hey Felicia, thanks for the comment.

Nora said...

thanks Marsha, I love that one also.

Nora said...

Thanks so much for all the kind comments here. I have gone to each of your sites to thank you. I really appreciate how many bloggers come to my site and leave me a nice note!
