Welcome to the Island Rambles Blog

Welcome to my blog world. This is a photo blog, poetry and short story blog about my life on Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada. I take photos of the birds and scenery I find. I hope you enjoy your time here and please come back again. PHOTOS WILL ENLARGE IF CLICKED. The photos are slide show enabled if you click on them. If you click on the top lighthouse photo it always takes you to the most recent summary list of my postings. I am also mostly at my Facebook Page Island Rambles or my Instagram islandrambles.

Starting Over

We are starting over at the ABC Wednesday Link Up! We are at the letter "a".   Today I have an Anise Swallowtail Butterfly and

here are two Anna's Hummingbirds.  These are for Macro Monday. The Swallowtail was taken in the warm summer months but the Anna's are out on my deck all winter.

Here are some American Robins eating the berries over in Oak Bay taken while we looked for the Redpolls.

The American Coast Guard was at the dock downtown the other day.

For Our World Tuesday I give you some photos from the Butchart Gardens evening lights fantastic. Their lights are so amazing!  This is the Chinese Dragon display.   This dragon was given to the gardens to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Victoria and the city of Suzhou in Jianqsu Province, China.

This is the Milk Maids from the Eight Maids-a-milking from the song Twelve Days of Christmas. They have a Magic of Christmas Walk where the kids pick out the items in the Twelve Days of Christmas.

For Wild Bird Wednesday I have the Redpolls.  Hundreds of Redpolls have come to town.

Also just for fun a beautiful Varied Thrush out at Goldstream.

For Nature Notes Tuesday some sleepy shorebirds and a curious little otter who was at Cowichan while we looked for eagles.

For Good Fences Thursday I have a lovely horse behind his fence.

On Facebook you can see my Island Rambles Page where I post frequently. I post videos frequently on my Island Rambles YouTube Channel also. You can find me on Twitter here.

  19. Nora - thanks for visiting my blog - I wanted to let you know that your comments did come through!

I have never heard of or seen a Varied Thrush - the coloring is out of this world. And how lucky you are to see an otter - aren't they always entertaining?

  23. Oh my gosh that otter just makes my heart so happy!!! We saw the Butchart Gardens between Christmas and New Year's one year, way too long ago. (Our youngest son, now 55, was in college, so really it was eons ago). We had a coupon to stay at the Empress, which was wonderful and then we stopped in Seattle where he was in school and stayed in some dump of a hotel near campus, which cost us as much as the Empress had (with the coupon). I've never forgotten that or the beauty of the gardens either.
