Vancouver Island Bald Eagles

Today some eagle talk.....

I went out to the Spunky hawk nest and there was one of of the adult eagles on the tree beside the nest!  Yay, that is the picture above.  They are thinking of having babies and perhaps they liked having a hawk so much they will bring in another Spunky little hawk to raise in their nest!

We have seen so many eagles lately I can't remember exactly what nest these two were sitting beside pictured above and below.

Then out in Metchosin we saw an eagle reunion of a little eagle family near their nest.  Both the parents and two of the young were having a nice visit. They did not seem to be driving off their young.  There were two nests there.

Below these are the eagles at Swan Lake.

So many branches below, this is an eagle out near where I live.

He was very low and he had his mate above and then he flew.

Swan Lake eagles above. All the eagles seem to be on their nests now, it is very exciting!

This eagle above has three nests in the same tree!

And then I nearly wept as I went out to Sidney and I saw Ma and Pa on their old nest from the cam years ago. In the pictures below, they are far away. Yes they were right on the old nest.  It brought so many memories back to me of watching them on the old nest. It would be wonderful to have a cam on them again.

  2. It's awesome that you live in eagle land. I wonder if eagles realize how majestic and dignified they look.

  3. Great photos Nora! Glad you have been out and have seen quite a few eagles. A few years ago I caught the pair from the Golf Course nest mating in the big perch tree across the road! A couple of weeks ago I saw the pair near the Pat Bay Hwy. off Rideau Ave. mating! It's that time of year.

  7. I so enjoy your eagle photos, Nora. I remember when the eagle population was at risk, and there was even talk of extinction, but that talk led to a resurgence of interest, which in turn led to conservation. That was some considerable time ago, now, but I then lived in White Rock, BC, and commuted to Vancouver. During my drive, I could watch the Lower Mainland eagle population increase year by year.

  8. I haven't seen any eagles yet up the lake. Maybe their food sources aren't here yet. - Margy

  11. We have Bald Eagles breeding in southern Ontario, but nothing like in BC. In a couple of weeks I will be spending a week on Vancouver Island and I am looking forward to seeing eagles every day.
