Variety of Birds




Today it is time for a variety birds that I have seen this week.  (And no real text as I will do Wordless Wednesday.)  I almost will be wordless. I will try my best. It is v for variety week at ABC Wednesday. (The above bird is a leucistic Fox Sparrow).

  4. I have never ever seen a 'fox sparrow'...in photos or in real time. What a treat that top photo was for me.

    1. Hi Holly, the word leucistic means that it is lacking of pigment hence it is way more white than the normal Foxy. It is not an albino because it has some color and does not have pink eyes.

    1. Indrani has a wonderful blog from India. It is hard for some bloggers to download as many pictures as I put in each time so I am now doing a jump break where you have to click "read more" and this may help those with slow downloading.

    When work sends me to places I would not normally go to I do tend to pack in the pictures - I can alway catch up on sleep when I get back to work!

    1. yes Stewart, the Fox Sparrow was a hit, Leucism is is a condition characterized by reduced pigmentation in animals caused by a recessive allele. Unlike albinism, it is caused by a reduction in all types of skin pigment, not just melanin. Thanks to Google and Wiki for that.

  17. You have such an interesting variety of birds and photographs here. My favourite images are the last one - it is so crisp and clear and i like the colours - and the California Quail because of the beautiful textures and patterns on the bird and the grass.

    1. Hi Eileen, I messed up with the Harris Sparrow, it was late and I was rushed....the actual spelling of the name is I think Harris's Sparrow. But I am not doing corrections anymore as you have to republish and then all my subscribers will get a second copy and that may be annoying to them. I wish the Googlebot would not crawl my posts immediately, I have too many errors to fix.

  30. Great variety of birds Nora. The leucistic Fox Sparrow is very cool. Did the eye ring, tail and bill give it away?

    1. the leucistic Fox sparrow just stand out as he is almost all white but is similar in size to a Foxy. (and the birder beside me told me who he was!!)
