I Failed

We are at the letter "F" for the ABC Meme originated by Denise N. F is for Forever.  I hope I can blog forever.  But I am having trouble with my eyesight. (Failure note at end).  F is for flowers feathers and fun!

I have mixed in some photos from the past and some new ones. These are from a few years ago at Butchart's Gardens.

I think I have put in this same picture before of the Red Sap Sucker out at Goldstream.  I am finding some RED for Ruby Tuesday.

This is a late night shot of the hummer on the deck having his last snack before going to bed.  He is peeking at me.

Below is a Goldfinch from last year at my feeder.  I am ready for summer.

Feathers are Fun!  I love all the colors on the various ducks.

The Wood Duck is a favorite of mine.  Kings Pond is full of them this year.

And I did find the Palm Warbler out at Clover Point with the help of some nice birders.

He has a red spot on top of his head.

A water scene taken a few days ago.  Weather is warm here and people sit on the rock and look out to sea.

This is at Weirs Beach below.

Now for some more Black and Whites!  And I found a fence out at Cattle point for the Fence Meme.  It is hard to find good fences.

One day we were driving along Martindale and we saw all these turkeys wandering around. They had escaped from a farm I suppose.  I had some bread in the car.  I though they would be very frightened of me.  But I wondered if they liked bread.  Yes, they all came running and talking to me .  They loved bread.  They were probably gathered up by the farmer soon after their escape as they were not there the next day.

Below is black and white Beaver lake trail ...spooky.

I was worried about this little eagle I found out at Goldstream a few days ago.  See how his wings are hanging down.  He was ok.  He could fly really good.  Perhaps he was just wet.

After all that black and white I need some color!  And all the trees are starting to bloom!  Yay soon it will be Spring!

I am a Failure.  I FAILED  all my eye tests and have lost some more of my vision. Sigh. I have glaucoma that they cannot control. On some heavy duty drops now, they do make my eyes sore.  Hope I keep some of my sight but using drops that make your eyes so sore is difficult also. The only time I forget all my troubles is when I do photos and my blogging! I love to read the comments. I have such a wonderful group of supportive bloggers. I am so glad I started blogging many years ago.  I had no idea the joy it would bring to me.

  1. The birds and flowers are beautiful. Great photos.
So sorry about your eyes. I hope your new drops can help. I am having trouble with my eyes too. The regular injections I am having for macular degeneration have stopped any further sight loss - but my eyes are sore a lot of the time. I have become extremely sensitive to light and although I am still able to get out on my kayak I pay for it for days after with sick headaches. I look at my photos and tell myself it must be worth it to be able to see such beauty. Good luck to you!

    1. Thanks Mick for your reply. I am so sorry to hear about your eyes and your macular degeneration. It really helps to hear others stories of what they are coping with. I think it gives me strength to know there are other people with medical problems who like me, still struggle to do our photography and to live our lives in nature as we love it so much. thanks again.

  6. Your photos are lovely! I'm so sorry you are losing your vision. I have glaucoma too, but so far I have only lost a small amount of vision. Until last spring, I was using two kinds of drops but became allergic to one. At the moment I can still use one kind of drops, which brings the pressure down a bit but not to the level my doctor wants. Last fall I had surgery but it didn't help. It frightens me that you have glaucoma that cannot be controlled!

    1. Thanks for this info Camera Girl. The surgery did not help me, made it worse. I am allergic to the preservative in the drops. It helps to know someone else has had similar problems. The doctors find it easy to prescribe and do surgeries. They do not have to live with it.

  16. Love seeing all the colors, the birds and flowers, the seascape and trees. I know what you mean about the joy of blogging and photography, and how it helps you to forget your troubles. Somehow immersing ourselves into the beauty of the world and writing about it, does help to balance out all that other stuff. I do hope you find relief with the glaucoma medication. Please take care. Sending you best wishes for your good health.

  17. Nora, I'm so sorry about this progressive change in your eyesight and the pain the drops cause you. I hope that you will find a way to continue blogging using with assistive technology? I cannot imagine the tremendous loss it is to not be able to see at all.. I have had difficulty with one eye due to ms, but it healed, I am fortunate. The shadow of blindness is always a possibility with MS so this is part of why I take so many photos now, just in case. I hope someone will help you to continue to upload old photos, because they are beautiful and read/listen to other blog posts and write your own with some of the software that is available these days. Mostly, I wish you peace as these changes continue. I am thinking of a report I wrote in college about Monet as his vision dimmed due to cataracts and how his paintings changed… he continued until he could no longer see at all, I studied his series of paintings of the bridge at Giverny… I pray you will do the same, keep taking pictures, not worry about the clarity, just the process of being present to what you see, however it is that you see it, even through a veil of tears and gradual oncoming visual darkness. xoxo

  21. Gloriously beautiful images. Sorry to hear about your change in the eyesight. I was once on strong eye drops for Glaucoma. The only way they fixed it was doing cataract surgery on both eyes two weeks apart. No more drops, hope you feels better in the end for you on those drops. Keep on taking those photos!

  24. So love the water views... especially the colours in the photo with the couple in chairs enjoying the view. Regarding your eyes, my husband had cataracts and eyesight failing fast, He had laser surgery just in time. He now doesn't need his glasses 24/7. I am still amazed at the result.

  34. Hello Nora. Your photos are bright and sharp and wonderful! That was why I named my blog A Colorful World back in 2008 when I started. Even though I didn't have a decent camera, and am not a photographer, I appreciate God's beautiful world and truly delight in it! Three years ago I had three bouts of iritus, plus a hole developed in my macula (all in my left eye) and it scared the poop out of me! I had surgery for the macula hole, and the iritus was treated successfully, but it made me realize that as we get older we lose our ability to see as clearly, and sometimes we lose most of our eyesight, and I needed to be thankful for every day I awoke to see a bright and beautiful morning! God be with you through this, dear blogger friend, and I will pray you keep being able to see our wonderful world, and be able to continue to photograph and blog as long as possible! I hope the new drops help the glaucoma. Have a beautiful, very blessed week!

  35. One blog post using ELEVEN memes???? Wow---that is creative and I'm sure a lot of work for you... Gorgeous set of pictures...

So sorry to hear about your EYES. Both of my husband's parents had (they are both dead now) Macular Degeneration.. SO---hubby is SO afraid of getting that and losing his eyesight. However, so far, so good for him.. We had our annual eye checkups recently--and he is still fine. Scary though--as I'm sure it is for you. Bless You.
    Hugs,
    Betsy
