The Week in Photos October

Some photos from the last few weeks.

These were from yesterday at Hatley Castle. The weather has been a challenge for photos.

As you can see we have had too much rain. Below is from the truck window at Goldstream Park where the salmon have started to come in so soon the eagles will gather there.

One of my favorite trees stumps at Goldstream.

Downtown in the rain.

Storms out at the beaches in Oak Bay at Turkey Head.

Then a break in the rain and I ran through the leaves at Mount Doug Park.

Out in Sidney at the farms all the children are getting their pumpkins .

We have not been able to do much birding this month due to the rain but we did see a Lapland Longspur at Cattle point.

I did see some Yellow Rumped Warblers at the park.

I seldom can focus on a flying bird but this heron was flying slowly and I got a shot of him at Panama Flats. The small Panasonic Camera I use, GH4, has an electronic shutter that is much slower than the usual mechanical shutter I was used to on the Canon cameras. I have never been able to get a good flying shot since I switched to the small camera.

This is a Marbled Godwit that we saw at Esquimalt Lagoon.

After all the rain I think it is the end of the butterfly season here, we did find some Sulphurs out in the farm fields just around two weeks ago.

Well that is a wrap up of the last few weeks, just a lot of rain and cloudy weather, not looking forward to this winter. I guess I will do a lot of interior shots.
I am on Facebook so you can find me there, link in contact on the top. You can see my Island Rambles Fan Page where I post every day and also my own Facebook. I have started on Instagram also so you can find my photos there also. I post a video every day on my Island Rambles YouTube Channel also.

  10. I've never even heard of a marbled godwit, and you saw one in Esquimalt? I lived on the 'the wet coast' for years, but maybe they're only on the island? Going to look it up, but back to your other photos first. I'm back -- I love your tree stump, and your autumn leaves. Interesting about your cameras. I only have my cell phone now, and I miss my Canon.

  11. Awesome photos, Nora. I like taking photos in the rain. My problem is the rain falling on my lenses. :-)

  16. Great set of pictures - for all that people complain about the rain, it can bring out the colour - especially in autumn.
