I Never Left You

Today's story poem is called I never left you.

I Never Left You

I don't think I ever left. It was a long time ago, I lived in a big old house by the sea. But I couldn't leave. My heart couldn't leave. My soul stayed there by the sea but my body moved on to town. I could not leave that wild rugged isolated coast.

My soul floats above the blue of the ocean- all speckled with white jewels. It was a place of dreamy beauty but you also had to be as tough and as hard as the jagged rocks all along the shore. You had to take the pounding waves and violent wind storms battering you just as they battered the coast.

In those days you had to be cruel to be kind and to survive. Death was a part of life. It was accepted. You could not run to a doctor or to the hospital. You had to take care of your own. You had to take care of things yourself.

I always wondered what she thought. I always wondered how she could do it. She had so many hard things she had to do.  (This is part of a much longer story that I did not put in)
