The Child By The Sea

Today the story is about the child who lived by the sea. It is me.

There once was a little child who lived by the sea
she played very quietly all day by herself
she loved all those things close to her
she saw that the earth was warm and moist
the air was fresh and clean and filled with
the smell of salt and adventure
the seasons changed one after another
the seagulls cried and slid in the air
before a storm when the ocean whipped against
the grey sky
even the cold wetness of the rain
felt good to her
there was so much to see and feel

Each night she would climb up the old stairs
to sleep in her little bed beside the chimney
and dream of the whole wide world
out there in the darkness
the wind would tell her of
distant lands across the sea
perhaps of China or of Russia
their ships bobbing like toys on
the huge landscape of the earth
and the sea
and she would dream of her future
and what was going to be

sometimes life turns out not to be
those childish dreams
but they are never forgotten
or lost
in sadness.

  1. Hello, Nora! I enjoyed your poem. The photos of the whales are awesome. Love the beautiful views of the water. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Thanks also for the comment on my post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!

  2. itis lovelyto be able torecall all your previous writing and now to share them with us. Thanks

  3. I grew up in a rural area although not nearly as isolated as your spot. I remember feeling really connected to the natural landscape around me so I appreciate your poem and enjoy the freshness of it.
I really like the last three photos of your post - such beautiful colours and interesting shapes in the foreground.

  4. Thanks so much for these comments. I will try to visit your blogs but due to being very busy this time of year and also due to my leukemia making me very tired and I sleep a lot, I cannot comment on as many blogs like I used to. I still read them on my tablet in the evenings sometime though. I wish there was a heart that I could click for how much I have loved each of my bloggers blogs over these last 15 years. Blogger should have a heart emoji that we can click when we are too tired.

Hi! Thanks so much for visiting my blog on Vancouver Island Nature and Birds. I love to take photos of places we go to on Vancouver Island and the birds and animals we see. I love also to get comments so please leave a note for me. Cheers and thanks again. Nora
