Welcome to the Island Rambles Blog

Welcome to my blog world. This is a photo blog, poetry and short story blog about my life on Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada. I take photos of the birds and scenery I find. I hope you enjoy your time here and please come back again. PHOTOS WILL ENLARGE IF CLICKED. The photos are slide show enabled if you click on them. If you click on the top lighthouse photo it always takes you to the most recent summary list of my postings. I am also mostly at my Facebook Page Island Rambles or my Instagram islandrambles.

Another Week of Rain

We have not been able to get out much this last week as it has .....

rained every day!  I will just post photos from the last few weeks. Above is a Green winged teal at Swan Lake in the back pond.

A Fox sparrow and a winter male Ruddy Duck and a Scaup all at Swan Lake.

Ducks for "D" at ABC Meme

The Wigeons were at Cattle Point and the Harlequins below for Nature Notes.

I did some close crops of the flowers at Butchart Gardens Spring Prelude.  For Ruby Tuesday above.

Macro Monday

At Butchart Gardens Historical Display there were all these amazing wax art works!  I think the owner makes them. I have never seen anything like them before and they are lovely. Perhaps it is called "encaustic wax painting".  I can't remember but I think I need to learn how to do that.

Below in the Historical Display at Butchart Gardens are some of the gardening books and photos.

Here are more photos of Whiffin Spit Park for Our World.

Looking out from French Beach below.

Storm at Parker Beach below.

This is Durrance Lake here.

For Good Fences Goldstream Park below.

Two eagles in the rain at Goldstream for Stewart at Wild Bird. Hopefully we will get some good weather to get out soon.

On Facebook you can see my Island Rambles Page where I post frequently. I post videos frequently on my Island Rambles YouTube Channel also. You can find me on Twitter here.

  1. Great pictures - I do love those ducks!

Cheers - Stewart M - (back in) Melbourne

  2. I really enjoy your photos of Butchard gardens. I regret not having time to visit the gardens when I was in Vancouver.

  3. Butchart Gardens...always beautiful. The lone teal...almost looks like a carved decoy. SO many other wonderful photos, Nora, including "Whiffin Spit Park" (I love the name) but of course, Nora, I love the eagles best. Whenever I see an eagle photo I am so very thankful that the BC eagle population has come back so strong. Wonderful, right?

  4. The Green Winged Teal is a beauty and loved seeing the eagles in the rain. The flowers make me long for summer. Wonderful post!

  5. Based on your opening statement, I thought there would be a photo or two here, but this post went on and on (in a good way) with such eye-catching shots! I especially like the ones of the lake and the reflections. Hope your weather gets more cooperative!

  6. Indeed lots of rain here also... I don't mind though...

Your photo's are gorgeous as Always... feast for the eyes
