Difficult Posting This Week

I am having difficulty thinking of an amazing wonderful post for you this week and why is that....

I am not inspired I guess.  The weather has been against me for the last few weeks with rain and so cold.  Also I feel the pressure to produce some kind of really good and excellent blog because I now have many readers of the blog! My reaction to this is not to do any blogs at all.   :-)  I spend a lot of time doing videos and hiding out at my Island Rambles Page on Facebook. I really like Facebook as it is so relaxing and all you do is click.  I put videos into islandrambles YouTube and no one looks there or goes there so I guess it is excellent for hiding out at. I have no idea what to blog about and worry that I now actually have readers who expect something of some kind to happen here.  Yikes! Pressure!!

I waited for years to have readers of this blog and I am so happy to have many visitors come to see the blog from all over.  I am so grateful for this. I hoped that if I created this place people would come, like in Field of Dreams.  This is my Field of Dreams and now I am not sure how to play the game. I am speaking truly from my heart and this is a more personal posting than what is normal for me.

For years I would write many stories and historical blogs about Vancouver Island. I had few readers.  Years ago I had another blog that was full of research and history of the island and somehow someone took over that blog. It is gone now. I spent years working on that with no success. Now I do not wish to repeat all that work. What to do now? Unknown.

I am not sure what people want me to write about or what to put into the blog now. The Island Rambles Facebook Page and The Island Rambles Blog are very successful and I have found the most amazing, kind and wonderful readers. I have the most loyal and understanding blog friends.  I have found many sweet and caring friends on Facebook also. For myself, I think I have achieved all my dreams in finding the people who I was looking for all along. So personally I have accomplished even more than I dreamed of in finding friends through this medium.

(wildflowers and pussy willows are out)

But I still can not write. What is the matter with me?  If anyone knows or has felt like this, talk to me in the comments. I am hoping my writing slump will pass soon and I will feel the muse has returned to give me inspiration and direction on my path.  Meanwhile I have writers block so there will be photos and videos to fill this space.

(my camellia has bloomed)

When the weather improves I will be able to get some new photos to put in and perhaps I will not be so tired. I am going through a period of extreme low energy and poor health.  In a few weeks all the new birds will have come in and the eagles will be having their babies in the months ahead so there will be a lot of excitement. I will have some wonderful blogs to post then.

(Sapsucker flew in beside me the other day)

(lovely Yellow rumped Warbler)

(found a nice hummingbird nest above)

(The eagles are all back in their mated pairs)

(eagles nests that I found that seem to be active already, I found some more but will post the photos later on a post about the eagles).

(We found a Harrier flying across a field)

On Facebook you can see my Island Rambles Page where I post frequently. I post videos frequently on my Island Rambles YouTube Channel also. You can find me on Twitter here.

  2. My dear dear friend, I think you are being told to take of yourself, put you first...for a while. I do enjoy everything you do, I have seen places on your posts that I can't even imagine. I am not a beautiful writer but you have brought joy to me and many others. You do what makes you happy. Soon the weather will change and maybe that will help you ! 3. I think we put too much pressure on ourselves to blog. Your audience has no hold over you so no guilt should be felt on your part. Post when you like, what you like but more important take joy from posting. Have a little break. When all the birds are back I'm sure you will be keen to post a few photos here for us.

  4. Nora...first of all, I hope soon you'll be feeling better. Then, even if you have a 'writing block'...don't worry. To me, a blog needs little words at times. Afterall, a blog is like a diary...perhaps pictures only.

Thanks so much for stopping by to share your link with us at I'd Rather B Birdin'. Your birds are always terrific.

  5. I love all your wonderful photos. Last year was special when you chronicled the life of the baby hawk, but I enjoy all your photos of the landscapes and wildlife in your area. I would say just post when you feel like it and about what speaks to you personally. I would imagine most of your followers love nature as you do and enjoy sharing that part of your life. Your posts bring many smiles to my life.

  6. There is nothing wrong with what you wrote in this post! We are interested in what you want to say, not what you think we want to hear!!!

I used to worry about what I wrote, but then I decided that I blog for ME, not for my readers, and that made all the difference. I let my readers know when I 'ran out of stuff' to say on a regular basis and only blogged when I had something to say and, guess what?--I felt better and my followers were happy, too.

  7. For me the blog is the hardest to do. I used to do daily posts but that got to be too much. Now I do maybe two a week. I usually write about what is happening in my life. I have statistics and know many more people visit my blog than those that write a comment. I think I write more for myself than my readers, otherwise I would probably quit. You are right, things like Instagram and Facebook are much easier. You can post a picture, write a short description and then scan through what others have posted. I actually spend more time there than writing and reading blogs. I also do videos on YouTube. Maybe you could try embedding some here on the blog to attract more people to you video page. Maybe we'll get more sun soon and then more stories will appear. - Margy

    1. Hi Margy, thanks so much for commenting. I think you understand what I am going through. I also walk that fine line of vulnerability and courage that you have to process through when you publish your life or parts of it in public when I am not a pubic person. And I always feel I could be doing more than I am now.

  10. A couple of years ago while posting in Rubbish by Roan, I got a bad case of blogger burnout. I pressured myself into believing I had to post everyday and comment on everyone else's posts. The commenting problem was brought on by a blogger who called me out because she commented on mine, but I failed to comment on hers. She was rude and very critical. This only added to my stress. At the time I was working full time and my off time was spent blogging and commenting. Blogging became a dreaded job instead of fun. So what did I do? I stopped blogging. Now I'm back, but limit myself to only 2 to 3 posts a week if I can. I try to return comments, but if I'm unable to find time I don't kick myself. It is supposed to be fun, not work. I hope you find your peace. Happy Wednesday.

    1. Hi Betty, oh yes I have met those really rude people also! I have been so far behind in my comments lately that I now must go back and catch up on them! I also am getting some spam comments that I have to carefully check out for embedded linking in them. I wonder if other bloggers are getting these spam comments?? I really appreciate your comments Betty with such good advice for me. I am thinking of doing a list of blogs on my blog.

  11. Oh, please take it easy on yourself. No one expects anything of you. We are only happy to see what you have shared, and ask for no more. In fact, you could have divided these photos into several weeks, to give yourself a rest.
And there you are...on The Island, with flowers and blossoms and birds and, above all, eagles! Rejoice. Forget the past when your work disappeared. I know the feeling, although I managed to lose mine all by myself.
Relax, be kind to yourself. Share a few of your very best and and save the others until you are once again happy, joyous and free, as my friends say.
    Hugs from cold unflowered Alberta.

  14. You are not alone! I guess most of us in this type of blogging nature and gardens pass through that episode. I have 2 blogs too, one devoted only to those found in my area, my first is now relegated to travels and whatever i feel i want to share that are from outside my area. Sometimes i just share my photos and some thoughts about them. I guess it is ourselves most of all who benefit from our posts, our expressions venue, stress decongesters; so you are actually more blessed that you are a writer.

And i am sure your followers love you most that you write from the heart. I found nature and garden bloggers are the most generous, understanding persons in digital media. Thank you.

  15. Ahh, you take so many wonderful pictures! That is one reason we love your blog. But rather than feel stressed, I suggest you make your blog posts short. Most readers on the internet have a short attention span anyway.

Although I often post 5 to 9 photos, on a busy day I may just post one. I rarely post videos but yours are great so I hope you will continue them. But limit yourself so you don't burn out.

I now write what I want, what I am learning about, what I want to remember, what I want to educate about. Otherwise it is not a blog about your love of nature, it becomes what you think other people want to here. I want to know what Nora wants to write about and so do many other people...Hugs..Michelle

  20. Before I started blogging (only a year ago), I read most of the "Blogging for Dummies" book, and one of the best pieces of advice in it was this: be clear about your objective with your blog. Make money? Make friends? Document activities for your family? Like anything else, having a clear objective keeps one on track when something feels off kilter. It seems to me from your post that (right now) you like posting pictures but not writing so much. That's cool. Do that. You are the only one that you need to make happy!

  24. I like to post as I reflect on what has happened, mostly in nature. People have no expectations, Nora.
The big expectation, I think, is that if someone comments on my blog I always return a visit. It is only respectful.
People are posting much less frequently. It's not the requirement to post daily. I just do as it focuses me for the day, and lets me figure out what I'll do that day. RELAX!
I like seeing the trips people take, or the nature around them. I hear you about the rain though, only it's cold and snowy here!!!!! Take care.

    1. Hi Jenn, yes I agree and that is what my guilt complex was about really, I did not reply to each and every comment last year as I was too tired and sick. I am making an effort this year. I like my familiar friend's blogs that I read as I know their story, as I know your story. Possibly after blogging with many of you over ten or more years we know more of each others stories than our families do.

As you say, if you build it, they will come - but sometimes it feels like all you have built is a space in the corn that nobody notices! Keep going!

  28. You write from the heart always and today is no exception. I feel like I have gotten to know you through your beautiful pictures and words and I hope you find the joy and energy to continue blogging. I write pretty much only to tie my photographs together, so I'm no expert in judging writing -- but I believe yours is as great as your photography.

I wonder if your stories about the brave little hawk and its adoptive parents brought you lots of new readers -- that was a wonderful story line, but nobody can expect that kind of miracle to happen to anyone every day of the year. I am quite sure that all of your readers enjoy your (extra)ordinary beauty just as much as I do (and have for years). Don't sell your beautiful every-days short!
