Update on the Spunky nest and the owls and more....
The eagle nest in Roberts Bay that raised the baby hawk last year is very quiet. I think it has only one baby eaglet in it, no hawks this year.
I have only been there a few times and this time saw the mom tenderly feeding one baby eaglet.
She is such a good mom.
We have been looking for owls this year. We found a Great Horned Owl thanks to a dear old friend that I met.
This is the baby Barred Owl below. He has branched to a very high tree canopy area and is hard to get pictures of. I am glad he is safe and can fly a little bit. His name is "Woody". Thanks to my friend who gave me the info as she has watched this nest for years.
My friend tells me the mom is called Josie or Josephine and the dad is "Mr". They are a lovely couple and full of owl personality.
I think this is the baby owl below trying out his wings. The owls have been the highlight of this summer for me, but my hubby is burnt out on owls so we will take a break.
This is the Oak Bay Eaglets below who are ready to branch now. Their nest was just a few blocks from where I lived for thirty years before moving so I knew these eagles better than the other eagles.
A deer comes to see me as I am taking photos and I do not mind.
We are on the hunt for rare and unusual butterflies now. It is very hot here and I may not be posting as much as I like to be outdoors a lot.
Flowers below from my garden and my neighbours garden. My neighbour has a wonderful garden.
We are at the letter X in the ABC linky and X marks the place I love the most, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, in Canada. This is my paradise. I am so glad I was born here. If you ever can come and see Vancouver Island you will love it too.

Great series of raptors from diurnal Bald Eagles to nocturnal owls. Vancouver Island is indeed a special place. I just can’t believe the price of real estate there!

ReplyDeleteNora...this is one incredible beautiful post! From the flowers to those wonderful birds. Nature at its finest!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for linking this for us birders this week.
Wow, those birds are so beautifully taken by your lens! If only i have long lenses like yours i will be able to also document our birds here. Sometimes i can just look at the outside nest of the orioles but the trees are so tall that i can only see the adults when they fly away. And the crows are so disgusting that they always attempt to snatch the young birdlings. When they fight on air they are so noisy, that every body hears. Orioles are good in driving away the crows, but sometimes they succeed.
ReplyDeletei'm so glad you give a hoot!
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots....and how Lucky you are to have such creatures nearby… where I have to visit a zoo for them
