Excitement at Spunky Nest

Big Excitement at the Spunky Hawk Eagle nest yesterday.....

There were eagles flying all around, I think this is the young eagle from the nest this year above and below he is playing with shells on the beach.

He sank into the water at one point and was quite surprised.

He would pick up a shell and show it to his Mom eagle and say "Look what I can do Mom", he was so funny.

The the parent eagles chased off two intruder eaglets that could be the eaglets from last year below as they tried to get right into the nest area.

Intruder eagles or last years eaglets as they wanted to go to the nest.

Then this years baby eaglet flew to the Spunky sleeping tree where Spunky spent all of his time last year! This years baby is very vocal and he screeched all the time I was there especially called out in excitement each time he flew.

Then he flew to the nest and called and called for food and looked around at old stuff and flew out again over my head.

Then the young eaglet baby flew to a nearby tree and pecked at the branches!
The parent eagles were both nearby on trees and chasing off the intruder young eaglets.

Here are some pictures of the Roberts Bay area at low tide yesterday.

I hope you enjoyed my little blog story on the eagles at Roberts Bay and please comment and come back to see the rest of the story.

  3. That was an exciting episode. They are so big it's difficult to think of them as fledgelings.

  5. I enjoy reading your stories. I wonder where the eaglet intruders came from and whether they were looking for a place to snooze and return home or to find a new home.

  7. Seems like being a young adult is challenging for any species. Locally here, a young moose ended up on the highway, and another one wound up in a field of horses. Confused for sure. You took lots of dramatic photos and videos.Great.
