Welcome to my blog world. This is a photo blog, poetry and short story blog about my life on Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada. I take photos of the birds and scenery I find. I hope you enjoy your time here and please come back again. PHOTOS WILL ENLARGE IF CLICKED. The photos are slide show enabled if you click on them. October Fun Weekend Posting

This is a Eurasian Eagle Owl at the Raptor Centre in Duncan above.

This owl is one of the largest owls in the world and they were hunted in Europe as they were thought to be a threat to the livestock. They are now trying to reintroduce them in Western Europe. This owl was so large and they brought it out to show us as I think it was just getting used to people being around it. We were there last week. They have hawk walks and owl nights at the centre. It is such a wonderful place to go to.

When we were at the Raptor Centre there is a nice horse at the parking lot. For Saturday's Critters.

For Pink Saturday. There still are many flowers out here as it has been so warm lately.

At Beacon Hill Park the Peacocks are growing in numbers and we even saw a tiny new baby that was just born!  Really late. Some people go and sit on the benches and the Peacocks are all around them. The Peacocks at Hatley Park were following me around hoping I would feed them.

Beacon Hill Park is looking lovely these days.

The little bit of stone that you see is from the stone bridge that Alice Carr had made for her sister, Emily Carr the painter and writer in 1953. Alice had the bridge made after Emily died, Emily died in 1945. The stones were collected from the local beaches.

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

  2. Hello! Beautiful photos.
The Finnish national football team is named after the Eurasian eagle Owl (in Finnish “huuhkaja”).
Once the eagle owl flew in the football stadium in the middle of the game and struggled with the opponent. That Eagle owl was nesting near the stadium. After that the Finnish national football team named “huuhkaja”.
